MLB Considering Realignment
Today Major League Baseball(MLB) announced they were,"strongly consdiering" realignment. What this means is they would even up the Leagues by having 15 teams in each. Currently there are 16 teams in the National League and 14 in the American League. If they did the realignment, rumors are that the Houston Astros would be moving to the American League. Baseball is also considering getting rid of conferences all together. There are 6 conferences in the MLB, each division having 3. It would make all 15 teams fight for 5 play off spots in each division. ESPN's analyst Buster Olney it is,"50-50" but with upcoming owner meetings it could get a lot stronger. While this may not affect the way baseball has been playing, it will affect the fans. In my opinion, it will not be as compettive. Teams are put in divisions to try and win that divisions, which leads to good division races toward the end of the year. We are on pace to see a couple of them this year. I don't know about you guys, but I would hate to see the competitive in America's Past Time go away. A source on ESPN says,"That the players' union has indicated that it is open to the idea of two 15-team leagues, but that the whole plan still hasn't been talked through or presented to the owners." I really hope this doesn't happen.
